Weekend Postcard
Spider-Man, Serendipity & Acid Green Hydrangeas
This week has been busier than I would have liked.
I’ve spent most of it behind a screen, writing, rebuilding my website and trying to untangle what the next chapter of my business should look like. By Friday I realised I’d been so busy creating that I’d almost forgotten to notice.
Almost.
The Annabelle Incrediball hydrangeas have quietly turned that extraordinary acid green they always reach just before they begin to fade. I think I love them even more now than when they’re bright white.
There was also a small victory….

I’d spotted a Zara tunic and matching balloon trousers a few weeks ago. By the time I decided I wanted them, the trousers had sold out completely. After an embarrassingly determined hunt, I eventually found a pair on eBay (if you’re interested I found another pair here) They arrived today and I’m ridiculously excited to try them on.
I’ve also finally settled on my outfit for my sister’s wedding in Tuscany later this month.
The invitation says black tie with full-length dresses for the women, which immediately made me wonder if I was expected to become someone else for the evening. I’ve never really been a ballgown kind of girl, although I do love dressing up.
Months ago I’d admired a beautiful Mes Demoiselles dress but couldn’t quite justify buying it. They’re all sold out now but in the way that these things sometimes happen, it appeared on Vinted in exactly my size. Serendipity at its best.
It isn’t quite floor length (I'm 5’9”), but it falls just below my ankle, for which I’m hoping Tuscany will forgive me. I need my feet to be comfortable so I opted for Esska as they have a great balance between comfort and glamour. I wanted this pair, but they were sold out in my size so I opted for these instead.. I think they’ll work. I’m on the hunt for a clutch bag. I have a woven gold straw one that might just work. Perhaps slightly too casual... although perhaps Tuscany is exactly the place where “slightly too casual black tie outfits” can be pulled off.
One thing that surprised me this week was Spider-Man.
Superhero films really aren’t my thing. I only went because everyone else in the family was going, and sometimes the point isn’t the film—it’s simply being together.
Ironically, that turned out to be exactly what the film was about.
Peter Parker spends so much of the story trying to carry everything himself, until he finally realises that none of us are meant to do life alone. We all need people. We all need somewhere to belong.
I came away thinking how closely that echoed what I’d been writing about this week in The Social Health of a Home. Perhaps the homes we remember most aren’t the most beautiful ones after all. They’re the ones where people gather, where we feel accepted exactly as we are, and where life is shared rather than managed alone.
Finally, I’ve been quietly rebuilding the website.
For a long time it has led with products and guides, but this week I realised that wasn’t really the story I wanted to tell.
The first thing you’ll now see is a simple sentence:
Designing homes that feel as good as they look.
Take a look here
I’m hoping that there’s a clear running thread through everything we do—our interior design work, the books, Studio Notes and even Foster House itself. It feels like the clearest expression yet of what I’ve been trying to say all these years.
If you have a moment over the weekend, I’d love you to take a look. It’s still evolving, but it finally feels as though it’s beginning to reflect the world Dave and I have been building for so many years.
And if you do visit, I’d genuinely love to know what you think.
Have a wonderful weekend.
